This Isn’t Bound To Please Buckeyes Fans

September 16, 2009

While USC needed just about every single one of the 60 minutes in their game against Ohio State to pull off the victory, early on in the contest it looked like we could have a blowout on our hands.  Much like in their 2008 meeting, Terrelle Pryor threw an interception to Trojans LB Chris Galippo and it was returned inside the Buckeyes 5-yard line.  Though last year Rey Maualuga returned his for a touchdown.

Then the Buckeyes defense held steady before giving up a Trojans touchdown on 4th and goal from the one-yard line when Stafon Johnson got into the end zone.

Or did he?

That's not a touchdown

That's not a touchdown

And Jim Tressel thought Buckeyes fans were miserable before.  Imagine after seeing this picture that clearly shows Stafon Johnson did not score.

Now there’s no way we can know for sure what the outcome would have been had this play been called correctly.  It’s entirely possible the Buckeyes would have turned the ball right back over, or maybe even suffered a safety.  Who knows?

Though when you only lose by three points, and then you find out seven of them should have never happened, well, that’s a tough pill to swallow.

Thanks to Dr. Saturday and Men of the Scarlet and Gray for the photo.

His forward progress gave them the touchdown before his knee touched. The football went over the line and recoiled to where the still frame is stopped. That’s what the video replay indicates anyways.
