Blog Ten Gameday: Ohio State And Iowa Lead

2009 November 21

Only two early games going on during this final Saturday of Big Ten conference football, and there aren’t any real surprises going on.  Though neither game has been very pretty for anybody.

Ohio State 14  Michigan 3  Halftime

The Buckeyes offense wasn’t really doing anything for most of the first half before Jim Tressel busted out the spread option and the Buckeyes marched down the field for their first offensive touchdown.  The drive was capped off by a 29-yard touchdown run by Brandon Saine who went untouched on the misdirection play as all 11 Michigan defenders followed Terrelle Pryor.

Ohio State’s other touchdown came when Tate Forcier fumbled in the end zone and Cameron Heyward fell on top of the ball.

As for the Wolverines offense, they’re moving the ball pretty well against the Buckeyes defense, but their drives aren’t ending in points.  Jason Olesnavage missed his first field goal attempt of the day before making one in the second quarter.  Roy Roundtree has been the offensive star for Big Blue with 5 receptions for 63 yards.

Michigan’s defense has done a very good job of keeping the Wolverines in the game so far, but they’re going to need some help from the offense or this one may get out of hand in the third quarter.

Iowa 9 Minnesota 0  Halftime

While it doesn’t look like Iowa is going to hang 55 on the Gophers again this season, it’s also not looking like Minnesota will pose much of a threat either.  The Gophers turned the ball over three times in the first half, but thankfully their defense has been able to keep the Hawkeyes in check.

Brandon Wegher got the Hawkeyes the game’s lone touchdown so far with just under a minute left in the first half, but Daniel Murray’s extra point attempt was blocked, and we sit at 9-0.

Iowa’s Adam Robinson had 72 yards rushing in the first half, but did leave the game towards the end of the 2nd quarter with what looked like some kind of foot injury.  What his status is for the second half I don’t know yet.
