Blog Ten Gameday: Ohio State’s Dominance Over Michigan Continues

2009 November 21

Ohio State 21  Michigan 10

Early in the second half it looked as though the Wolverines were going to make a game of things.  Trailing 14-3 at the half, Jonas Mouton intercepted a Terrelle Pryor pass in the third quarter and Michigan turned it into a touchdown when Tate Forcier found Vincent Smith for the score.

That’s where the hope ended.

Ohio State would answer with a wonderful play call by Jim Tressel — who deserves some credit for opening it up today — on a 3rd and goal following a sack.  With about eight Wolverines blitzing the Buckeyes called for a screen pass and Pryor waited until the last second before floating a pass over the oncoming rush into the hands of Daniel Herron, who walked into the end zone for a 21-10 lead.

That’s the way it would end as the Buckeyes wrapped up another Big Ten title and will now sit back and wait to see who they’ll be playing in the Rose Bowl this January.  Which means you should probably watch Oregon and Arizona on ABC tonight.

Iowa 12  Minnesota 0  Final

This was not a game to tune into if you enjoy the offensive aspect of football.  Neither team was ever able to get anything going with the ball, but Minnesota did a worse job than Iowa, so the Hawkeyes come away with a 12-0 win to finish their regular season 10-2 and keep their hopes of a BCS berth alive.

The two teams combined for a total of 372 yards, five turnovers and 17 punts.

So the Floyd of Rosedale remains in Iowa’s possession, as they’ve now shutout the Gophers by a combined score of 67-0 the last two years.
