Big Ten Individual Awards

November 24, 2009

John Clay is a very popular choice these days, and deservedly so

The All-Conference teams weren’t the only awards handed out on Monday night, as the Big Ten also announced the coaches and media selections for players of the year.

I’ll just say there’s one selection I don’t agree with all that much now.

Find out who took home the hardware after the jump.

Coaches Awards

Offensive Player of the Year – John Clay, Wisconsin

Offensive Lineman of the Year – Bryan Bulaga, Iowa

Defensive Player of the Year – Jared Odrick, Penn State

Defensive Lineman 0f the Year – Jared Odrick, Penn State

Freshman of the Year – Chris Borland, Wisconsin

Media Awards

Offensive Player of the Year – John Clay, Wisconsin

Defensive Player of the Year – Greg Jones, Michigan State

Freshman 0f the Year – Chris Borland, Wisconsin

Coach of the Year – Kirk Ferentz, Iowa

I’ll just say this about the coaches selection of Jared Odrick for both Defensive Player of the Year, and Defensive Lineman of the Year: I don’t think Odrick is the best defensive lineman in the Big Ten.  I just don’t.

So therefore if he’s not the best at the position, I can’t have him as the best defensive player in the conference overall.  I’m not trying to bash Odrick in any way, because he’s a very good player, but there are other players I’d put ahead of him.

Of course I won’t tell you who now because I’m saving it for the Blog Ten Awards.  It’s a red carpet event!
